An internationally renowned gymnast, Comaneci represented Romania in the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Games, earning nine medals. Comaneci also earned gold medals in the World Championships and European Championships. Comaneci was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1996, and named one of the 100 most important women of the 20th Century. She serves as the vice-chairperson of the board of directors of Special Olympics International and as vice-president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

She and her husband, Bart Conner (also an Olympic Gymnastics Gold Medalist and PCA National Advisory Board Member) are co-owners of Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy. The two have supported PCA through appearances at National Youth Sports Awards Ceremonies.
